Reader,

Last week, my truck went into the shop. Nothing major. They gave me a loaner and said it’d be ready in a few days.

A week passed… no update.
So I called. Turns out my rep had to leave suddenly for an emergency, and the shop discovered more issues with my truck. Parts were on order. No one had called me to say a thing.

The guy on the phone sounded nervous—like he expected me to blow up.

But I didn’t.

Here’s why:
In the Marine Corps, you learn real quick that anger doesn’t solve problems.
It just adds fuel to a fire that’s already burning.

Same goes for project management.
Stuff breaks. Deliverables slip. People miss things.

Getting upset doesn’t magically push a feature into “Complete.”
Sometimes, things run late—and your job is to lead through it, not yell through it.

That phone call reminded me:
It’s not about ignoring problems.
It’s about choosing how you respond when things go sideways.

In this week’s video, I break down the full story, what I took from it, and how we as PMs can lead with a little more patience—and a lot more impact.

Make sure you like the video and throw a comment about any interesting lessons you've learned from throughout your career!

Being a Good Leader is Being a Good Person

Stay Proactive Over Reactive,

Russ
